A visit to Ariane Krause

The Stolpe Manor House is a place that stirs the imagination. Situated right on the River Peene, which flows into the Baltic Sea not far away, the hotel is a hideaway of the very highest order. On the terrace, we met Ariane Krause, who has worked at the Stolpe Manor House since completing her training. She has been managing the property on behalf of FEINE PRIVATHOTELS as director since July 2026. After the interview, she was keen to take us on a short tour and show us her favourite spot.

Dear Ms Krause, how did you get into the hospitality industry? Is it in your family, or what was the deciding factor in choosing to start your career in this sector?

I don’t come from a family with a history in the industry (laughs). My journey into the hospitality industry began with my apprenticeship as a hotel manager at Gutshaus Stolpe. Even back then, I was fascinated by how varied this profession is and how many different people you get to meet every day. No two days are the same, and that’s exactly what made the hospitality industry so appealing to me from the very start.

Could you tell us a little more about your career? What inspires you about your job? And what made you choose Gutshaus Stolpe, which you have been managing since mid-June 2026?

Gutshaus Stolpe has been part of my life since my very first day at work. Over the years, I have been able to take on more responsibility step by step and develop both professionally and personally. Most recently, I served as deputy director before taking over the management of the estate in June 2026.

The fact that I, as a former trainee, am now able to manage the Stolpe Manor means a great deal to me. I have known the estate, its history, its guests and many of our staff for a long time. For me, therefore, it is not simply a place of work, but a place to which I feel a deep connection.

What I love most about my job is the variety. It’s not just about rooms, catering or events. It’s about creating a special experience for people. When guests leave feeling relaxed, are keen to return and associate the manor house with fond memories, that is the greatest reward for me.

How do you intend to develop the Stolpe Manor House further, and what are your plans?

It is important to me to preserve the manor house’s unique character and tradition, whilst at the same time developing it carefully. I want our guests to continue to experience the personal atmosphere, the tranquillity and the individuality of the place in the future. For me, this includes consistently high quality, warm and attentive service, and a strong connection to the local region.

At the same time, I would like to introduce new ideas, further develop our offerings and position the manor house even more strongly as a special retreat for connoisseurs, those seeking relaxation, wedding parties and conference guests. It is important to me that our team is on board with this. A hotel thrives on the people who work there. Only when staff feel connected to the establishment and enjoy being hosts can our guests experience this special warmth.

For your guests, the Stolpe Manor House is a gem on the River Peene, in a stunningly secluded location, surrounded by the most beautiful natural scenery. What is it about this house that you personally find so inspiring? What does the Stolpe Manor House have that other hotels of this calibre do not?

What inspires me most of all is the unique blend of history, nature and genuine hospitality. The manor house isn’t just situated in a beautiful landscape; it is part of that landscape. The River Peene, the extensive park and the tranquillity lend this place a unique vitality.

At the same time, the hotel has a very personal and family-like atmosphere. Despite its high standards, it doesn't feel stiff or unapproachable. We want our guests to feel welcome and at home from the very first moment. Many of them have been coming back year after year. This close bond and the special atmosphere are difficult to describe; you simply have to experience Gutshaus Stolpe for yourself.

The duties of a hotel manager are varied and can certainly be challenging from time to time. Is there a particularly lovely occasion here at the hotel that you remember with special fondness?

I am particularly moved by the weddings we have the privilege of hosting at the manor house. There are always moments that stay with me for a long time – for example, when a bride and groom spend a whole weekend with us, together with their family and friends, and make the manor house their own home for that time. When, at the end of such a celebration, the guests and the bride and groom leave happily and tell us that they couldn’t have imagined a more beautiful place for this special occasion, it’s a very emotional moment for me too. Knowing that, as a team, we’ve been able to play a part in creating a lifelong memory fills me with pride and gratitude.

How would you describe yourself as a hotel manager? Do you seek contact with your guests, or do you tend to keep a low profile?

I’d say: a bit of both. The real hosts at our hotel are my staff. They are in direct contact with our guests every day, and their warmth and attentiveness play a crucial role in shaping their stay. Of course, I also enjoy having a personal chat. I try to have a good sense of whether a guest is looking for interaction or would rather enjoy some peace and quiet. For me, personal closeness doesn’t mean imposing myself on people, but being there and approachable at the right moment.

How would you describe your leadership style? Are you an ‘approachable’ boss?

Yes, I see myself as an approachable boss. Open dialogue, mutual respect and honest communication are very important to me. My staff should know that they can come to me at any time with questions, ideas or even problems. At the same time, for me, good leadership involves clear decisions, reliability and a shared commitment to the quality of our work. I am familiar with many processes from my own experience and know what staff in the various departments achieve on a daily basis. That is why it is important to me not only to delegate tasks, but also to listen, offer support and find solutions together.

Please let’s talk a little more about the culinary focus of your establishment, which promises regional gourmet delights. How would you describe the concept – what can guests expect from you?

Our cuisine combines the region’s produce and traditions with modern, quality-conscious cooking. We want to show our guests just how varied regional cuisine can be. In doing so, we place great emphasis on high-quality ingredients, authentic craftsmanship and a close connection to our local area.

With the ‘Kurt’ restaurant and the Stolper Fährkrug, our guests can experience two different culinary sides to our establishment: from a special, finely crafted menu to down-to-earth and uncomplicated cuisine. Both concepts are united by the aim of creating authentic taste experiences using good produce. Our guests can look forward to cuisine that is sophisticated without losing sight of its roots.

One last question, Ms Krause: What is your favourite spot on the estate?

My favourite spot is a bench overlooking the River Peene. There, you can find a moment’s peace, let your gaze wander over the water and enjoy the special tranquillity. Especially on a busy day, this spot always reminds me of what makes Stolpe Manor and its surroundings so unique.
